BREAKING: Vikings QB Daniel Jones Projected to Replace Super Bowl Champion. HTX

The Minnesota Vikings have kept their quarterback plans close to the chest, with veterans Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones, along with rookie J.J. McCarthy, all under evaluation. While it’s possible that two of them could return, it’s highly unlikely that all three will stay on the roster.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin speculates that the Los Angeles Rams might be a potential landing spot for Daniel Jones, who is the newest and least invested quarterback in the Vikings’ lineup. Jones would serve as a backup to two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford.

“Stafford is the clear starter if he returns, but he’s nearing 37,” Benjamin wrote on January 28. “It’s time for Sean McVay to bring in a younger quarterback to develop, and he’s shown interest in reclamation projects before, like with Baker Mayfield.”

Jones, the former Duke standout, has impressive physical abilities and played a key role in getting the New York Giants to the playoffs in 2022. However, to revitalize his career, he may need to follow a similar path as Darnold, who found success as a backup with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox also suggests that while Jones could remain in Minnesota and continue to learn from head coach Kevin O’Connell, it might be more beneficial for him to learn from McVay, who directly influenced O’Connell’s coaching style.

Meanwhile, Darnold is expected to command a high salary after his Pro Bowl season, though his inconsistent finish to the year could limit his price tag to a level the Vikings are willing to accept. McCarthy, the Vikings’ 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft, is under contract for three more years. This leaves Jones with the most uncertain future in Minnesota, as he may be waiting for clarity on Darnold’s status, potentially opening the door for another team to make a move.tr
