The Buffalo Bills enter the offseason facing somewhat of a conundrum surrounding their star running back James Cook. The rising superstar is coming off the best year of his career, and is entering the final year of his rookie contract – something he has been very public about. Cook wants an extension, and according to an Instagram live he hosted, he wants a deal that will pay hi $15 million per year.

Cook joined “Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson,” where he explained his side of the story and where he was coming from.

“I just feel like [players] are deserving of it,” Cook said. “Like why not? We work all of our life to get paid. Feed me the big bucks. I want to go chase the highest of the highest and I’m going to keep doing it. I’m going to stand on what I stand on. And I don’t want to feel like a cancer at all because I don’t like all that attention. That’s not me. I’m just standing on business and what I deserve.”

Cook has become one of the league’s best running backs over the last two years. He has made the Pro Bowl in each season, and he led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 16 in the regular seasons, and he totaled 21 scores over the regular season and postseason. Few would argue that Cook isn’t deserving of the $15 million per year deal that he has hinted at wanting. The way he has gone about it, though, will rub some the wrong way, even if that isn’t his attention. The sooner he and the Bills find a resolution to this, the better.
