Once again, if the Buffalo Bills are going to reach their ultimate goal, they’re going to have to go through Kansas City, and they’ll have to do it at Arrowhead Stadium — all assuming that Buffalo will get past the immense challenge of beating the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.
Kansas City, despite not having a prolific offensive performance, still did what they had to do, once again proving that they are the most infuriatingly good team in the NFL at simply winning games. In doing so, they earned the right to host the AFC Championship Game for the sixth time in seven years. It’s an unparalleled level of dominance as the Chiefs are attempting to chase a three-peat, which has never been done in the NFL.
Everyone knows that the Chiefs have been the bane of the existence of the Buffalo Bills in recent history. For as talented as Josh Allen is, for as good as the Bills have been in the regular season, winning five straight AFC East titles, getting past Kansas City has proved to be an insurmountable feat in the playoffs.
Buffalo has lost to the Chiefs in three of the last four playoffs. They’ve been the big brother that the Bills haven’t been able to find an answer for.
To be fair, the rest of the league hasn’t either. Kansas City has lost only one game since Christmas Day of 2023, and that was their Week 10 matchup this season up in Buffalo, where Josh Allen put the game on ice.
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have simply perfected the art of winning games. Pair that with an elite defense led by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who creates countless matchup issues and constant pressure, and it’s a borderline impossible challenge that teams haven’t been been able to solve.
Not only does Buffalo have to get past the duo of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, but then they’ll have to head to Kansas City to exercise their demons. If they win the next two games, it will have been an unbelievable gauntlet to reach their first Super Bowl in over 20 years. Their mettle will certainly have been tested if they can pull it off.
