World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz has been eliminated from the ATP Finals after losing to Alexander Zverev in his final group-stage match. The Spaniard lost two group-stage matches, leading to his exit from the tournament.

Following his elimination, Alcaraz made a surprising admission. The 21-year-old revealed that he is feeling homesick and missing his family.

Alcaraz has been traveling extensively since his early exit from the US Open. Over the past two months, he has competed in tournaments in Beijing, Shanghai, Paris, and the ATP Finals. He also participated in the exhibition event at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia.

While his tennis season isn’t over, as he is set to represent Spain in the upcoming Davis Cup tie, there is some good news. The Davis Cup will take place in Spain, giving him a chance to spend time with his family.

Carlos Alcaraz’s wait for his first ATP Finals title continues. The Spaniard has now qualified for the event three times in his career but has yet to reach the final. Despite his early exit this year, Alcaraz achieved an important milestone.

In his second round-robin match at the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, Alcaraz defeated Andrey Rublev 6-3, 7-6(8). This victory made him the second-youngest player to achieve a remarkable feat on hard courts. He broke Rublev twice in the first set and edged out a tough second-set tiebreak after saving two set points.

Alcaraz, who was feeling unwell and wore a nose strip during the match, showed significant improvement after his earlier loss to Casper Ruud. At 21 years and 192 days, he became the second-youngest player to defeat as many top-10 opponents on hard courts, following Australian legend Lleyton Hewitt. The two-time Grand Slam champion had accomplished this feat before turning 21.

Alcaraz has a strong 35-18 career record against top-10 players, with 20 of those wins coming on hard courts. Seven of these victories happened this year, and eight were against players in the top five. The Spaniard has also achieved ten wins on clay and five on grass, showing his consistency across surfaces. He has won nine of his last 11 matches against top-10 players, starting with a key victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the French Open in June.
