Xavier Worthy suing ex-fiance for false domestic violence claims

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Monday morning, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy filed a lawsuit against his ex-fiancé, alleging she “fabricated” claims of domestic violence that led to his arrest (and subsequent release) in early March.

According to Williamson County court records, Worthy is seeking more than $250,000 in damages from ex-fiancé Tia Jones after he said she made up domestic violence claims “for the sole purpose of her financial gain and Plaintiff’s ruin,” and to “extort a home, money, cars and other valuables” from him.

The 21-year-old football star claims in the lawsuit that Jones stole more than $150,000 in cash and property from his home and physically assaulted him before he was taken into custody on Saturday, March 8.

Court records said that Worthy’s relationship with Jones shifted after he discovered she had cheated, which resulted in him asking her to leave his home for 12 days. However, she refused.

He claimed that she destroyed his game room and gaming console, scratched his face, tore out his hair, and then followed these actions by accusing Worthy of physical assault, which therefore led to his arrest.

Worthy was originally arrested and charged with assaulting a family member or person in his household by “impeding their breathing or circulation.” However, all charges were dropped and he was released from the Williamson County jail on the same day of his arrest.

She was granted a protective order against Worthy earlier this month by a Texas judge.

In response to the case, Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, issued a statement on on the day of his release. They said:

“We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.

The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of. She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident he did not want to press charges against the complainant.

We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”

Jones is now facing five charges, including one count of civil assault, civil battery, violation of the Texas Theft Liability Act, conversion, and trespass to chattels.

Additionally, Worthy is seeking a jury trial and wants to recover all “general” and “special damages” sustained in the incident. He is specifically demanding $250,000 from Jones.

Worthy was the leading receiver for the Chiefs last season with 59 receptions for 638 yards and three touchdowns.
