Mike Evans is arguably one of the best wide receivers in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ history. The Bucs drafted Evans seventh overall in 2014 from Texas A&M after he foregone his final two seasons of collegiate eligibility.
Mike Evans has been exuberated with his consistency, dominance, and impact on the game, which have set him apart from his peers. From his rookie season to the present, Evans has consistently performed at an elite level and proven his worth. His ability to produce results despite quarterback instability speaks volumes about his talent and determination.
In the press conference ahead of the Super Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy spoke about Mike Evans. Worthy admitted that he was sure that Evans would retire as one of the best in the league.
Worthy makes a compelling point. Mike Evans’ streak of 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons is historic—he is the only player to accomplish this feat in the first 11 years of a career, tying the legendary Jerry Rice’s career record. But Evans’ greatness extends beyond this milestone.
According to Pro Football Reference, he currently ranks ninth all-time in receiving touchdowns with 105. With just seven more, he would surpass Tony Gonzalez for eighth place, and 12 more would move him past Antonio Gates into seventh. Given his consistency, these numbers are well within reach for 2025.
Additionally, Evans’ career average of 75.5 yards per game puts him just 0.1 yards shy of tying Jerry Rice for 12th-best all-time.
Mike Evans’ remarkable consistency and production are even more impressive considering the array of quarterbacks he’s worked with throughout his career. Before the arrival of Tom Brady in 2020 and Baker Mayfield in 2023, Evans’ primary quarterback was Jameis Winston.

Winston, despite his talent, struggled with consistency and turnovers. Although he still leads the franchise in most passing yards, his tenure with the Buccaneers was marked by a high number of interceptions, leading to questions about his reliability as a starter.
In his rookie season, Evans showcased his exceptional talent by recording 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns, catching passes from quarterbacks Josh McCown and Mike Glennon. The season was marked with just two wins against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins. In the next six years, the Bucs had a winning record only once with Winston starting most of it and alternating with Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Amidst the variety of quarterbacks, Mike Evans has maintained more than 1000 receiving yards in all seasons with a career total of 12684 yards from 836 receptions. Evans’ adaptability and skill in maintaining high-level performance, regardless of who is under center makes him one of the best players in league history.
