37-year-old Colin Kaepernick remains a free agent. He is still waiting for an NFL team to call him so that he can scratch the red ledger off his name.
Recently, TMZ caught up with Kaepernick’s baby mama, Nessa Diab. The reporter asked whether the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback still has aspirations of playing in the NFL even after nine years.
Diab seemed to be in a hurry, but answered the question, nonetheless. She claimed Kaepernick still trains every day to stay NFL-ready.
The 49ers drafted Colin Kaepernick in the second round back in 2011. He took over the starting quarterback job in year two, and by year three, he led the NFC West side to the Super Bowl under the guidance of Jim Harbaugh.

The following year, Kaepernick signed a six-year contract extension with the 49ers worth up to $126 million, including $54 million in guarantees and $13 million fully guaranteed. His legacy entered a difficult avenue. He struggled under the new management after Harbaugh left to coach Michigan in college and was benched in 2015.
The situation worsened when the Nevada state graduate kneeled during the national anthem in the Niners’ third preseason game of 2016. He didn’t start until the Bills game in week 6 and finished the season with just one win in 12 games.
Kyle Shanahan was hired as the new head coach the following year. Shanahan ran the same system as his predecessor, but Kaepernick didn’t fit the bill. The Niners released him soon after, and he has been a free agent ever since.
Kaepernick time and again has argued that he was ‘Black Marked’ for protesting against police brutality and racism. As Diab revealed, her partner to this day is waiting for a call from an NFL team to give him a chance.
Before the start of the 2024 NFL offseason, the Chargers hired Harbaugh as the head honcho, and there were rumors he might bring his old student back. However, it never happened.
During the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Kaepernick claimed that he was ready to represent the USA in flag football in the next Olympics on home turf.
Colin Kaepernick and Nessa Diab reportedly met back in 2015 when he was still under contract with the 49ers. Their relationship was made official in 2016.
The pair actively participates in various social awareness missions. They established a non-profit human justice organization called Know Your Rights for the Black and Brown population of the USA. It provides education and health care to underprivileged children.
Diab, in her own right, is a successful TV host and presenter. She currently works at New York’s iconic radio station Hot 97.
Kaepernick and Diab welcomed a baby girl together in 2022. In the most recent interview with TMZ, she was asked whether they were planning to have another kid.
Diab provided a short “no” in reply to the inquiry.
As for Kaepernick, it’s unlikely he will get a call from any NFL organization anytime soon. He was part of the league for six seasons, appearing in a total of 69 games, throwing 1,011 completions for 12,271 yards, 80 passing touchdowns, and 30 picks, along with 375 carries with the ball for 2,300 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.
