Controversy surrounds: Are Detroit Lions fans planning to watch the Super Bowl & who are they rooting for?

If you’re a Detroit Lions fan, do you plan on watching Super Bowl 59?

Detroit Lions fans leave early as Super Bowl dreams slip away

It’s officially Super Bowl weekend, and I get the sense there isn’t much excitement in the metro Detroit area. With a disappointing finish to the Detroit Lions season and an uninspiring matchup in the championship game, it seems like Detroiters are far more interested in the burgeoning seasons of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings right now, and understandably so.

Tell us, Detroit Lions fans: Are you watching the Super Bowl? - mlive.com

Still, the Super Bowl isn’t just a big football game. It’s a national spectacle. With music performances, celebrity appearances, and commercials gearing up for their biggest day, there’s so much more than just a football game being played on Sunday. It’s all pretty much everyone will be talking about on Monday morning.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Detroit Lions fans have 5 good reasons (sort of) to watch Super Bowl

Will you be watching the Super Bowl this year?

My answer: Of course I will. In fact, last year’s Super Bowl was much harder for me to get excited about considering just how close the Lions were to getting there.

This year, I’ve had more time to process the Lions’ loss, and I’ve made peace with it. This team isn’t going anywhere, and they’ll make an exciting run again in 2025.

As for the Super Bowl itself, there’s no good reason for me to skip it. Even though the matchup sucks and I will find it hard to root for either the Kansas City Chiefs or Philadelphia Eagles, I’m not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. At the core of my NFL fandom, I love watching football. I will not cut myself off from the biggest game of the year because I’m sad about the Lions or I don’t like the teams playing. Football is such a beautiful game of athletic prowess and a battle of wits.

And to be quite honest, you could probably get me to watch a championship game in any sport or competition. People at the top of their profession competing on the highest stage? Yes, please.

So, yeah, I’ll be watching the Super Bowl, and I’ll almost certainly enjoy the hell out of it.

How about you? Will you be watching? Vote in the poll below and then scroll down to the comment section to let us know why or why not.
