Cowboys’ Mike McCarthy gets a vote of confidence from Dak Prescott.

Dak Prescott wants Mike McCarthy to get another shot in Dallas.

The Cowboys quarterback is out with a season-ending hamstring injury, which he said this week has him “feeling helpless” in terms of influencing McCarthy’s future.

“Your coach seems like he’s playing on his last contract and [I’m] almost feeling helpless like I can’t help him in this situation, especially a guy you believe in so much and you believe in being your head coach,” Prescott told Yahoo! Sports. “Control what I can control, help and support Mike to every extent that I can.”

In the interview, Prescott essentially advocated for a contract extension for McCarthy, whose deal is up after this season, his fifth in Dallas.

“I believe in him wholeheartedly,” Prescott said. “I don’t want to necessarily get into the nuts and the screws of it all obviously, but I think he definitely deserves a chance — another contract and a chance to coach this team amongst more influence. ‘On his terms’ may be a good way to say it. But I wholeheartedly believe in him.”

McCarthy, who is 47-32 during his tenure with the Cowboys, has seemingly been on the hot seat since Dallas was upset by the Packers during the Wild Card Round last season.

At 5-7 heading into Week 14, the Cowboys have disappointed in 2024, although Prescott has been limited to just eight games with the injury.

In late November, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he wasn’t so sure McCarthy would be shown the door after the season.

“I don’t think [extending his contract] is crazy at all,” Jones said during an appearance on 105.3 “TheFan”. “This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas.

“Bottom line is that, [in] no place in my body language or anything else have you seen indications about what we’re going to be doing relative to this [coaching] staff at the end of this year. And we shouldn’t [decide yet]. We got a lot of football left.”

Since those comments, the Cowboys beat the Giants, 27-20, on Thanksgiving, extending their winning streak to two games.
