Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott on His Hamstring Injury: “I Could Play a Game Today If I Needed To — and I’m Only Getting Stronger”

In a reassuring update that’s sure to lift the spirits of Cowboys Nation, quarterback Dak Prescott addressed concerns about his recent hamstring injury — and his message was clear: he’s ready, confident, and focused.

Speaking to reporters after a light workout at The Star in Frisco, Prescott appeared upbeat and energized, putting to rest rumors that his injury might sideline him longer than expected.

“Honestly, I could play a game today if I needed to,” Prescott said with a grin. “That’s how good I feel. We’re just being smart about everything — not rushing it, but at the same time, I’m moving well, throwing well, and I’m only getting stronger.”

The injury, which occurred during a conditioning session last week, had sparked concern among fans and analysts, especially given Prescott’s history with lower-body injuries. But both team doctors and Prescott himself confirmed the hamstring strain was minor and that he has been progressing ahead of schedule.

Prescott emphasized that the injury is not affecting his throwing mechanics or confidence in the pocket.

“I’m full-speed in terms of throwing and mobility drills. If anything, this little setback just gave me more time to fine-tune everything else — footwork, timing, chemistry with the guys. It’s actually been a blessing in disguise.”

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy also weighed in on Prescott’s status, saying the team is “in a great place” with their quarterback’s recovery.

“Dak’s a competitor — he wants to be out there every snap. But we’re following a smart progression plan, and all signs point to him being more than ready when it counts.”

His chemistry with star receivers CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks remains strong, and he’s reportedly taken on an even greater leadership role during his brief time off from full-speed reps.

When asked about his mindset heading into the season, Prescott didn’t hesitate:

“Locked in. Last year’s finish didn’t sit right with me, or with anyone in that locker room. We’ve got something to prove — and we will.”

With training camp ramping up and expectations once again sky-high for the Cowboys, Prescott’s health is critical to Dallas’ postseason hopes. But judging by his words — and his body language — the captain of “America’s Team” is more than ready to lead.

“I feel great,” Prescott concluded. “I’m ready to roll. Let’s go win some games.”
