Dallas Cowboys Complete Big-Time Deal By Extending Will McClay! -kid

There’s no doubt who around here has the last word in calling the shots. That’s Jerry. But McClay is about as instrumental as anyone to the success Dallas has experienced – and a foundational person when it comes to future success.

Some of the leadership of Dallas Cowboys is changing, in the form of new coach Brian Schottenheimer.

But unchanged now, as of Wednesday? A most key figure in the organization in Will McClay.

As first noted by ESPN, McClay is staying on as Cowboys vice president of player personnel.

McClay entered the month in the news as he had an expiring contract that was to run out following the NFL Draft.

But McClay – in many real ways almost a part of the Jones family due to his talent, personality and loyalty – is staying put … once again skipping over possible GM jobs elsewhere.

The GM here? That will not change.

“No. Just, no,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said recently, when asked if he would finally relinquish the GM title. “I bought the team, I think the first thing to come out of my mouth … somebody asked, ‘Did you buy this for your kids?’ I said, ‘Hell no. I bought it for me.’ And I didn’t buy an investment. I bought an occupation, and I bought something I was going to do.

“I was 46 (years old). I bought something I was going to do for the rest of my life. That’s what I’m doing. So, no. The facts are, since I have to decide where the money is spent, then you might as well cut all of the (expletive) out. That’s who’s making the call anyways.”

Ah, but McClay is key in “making the calls” as well.

Said Jerry recently: “He’s one of the best at gathering the information for the scouting. Is he one of the people that I would use to give me information and evaluation? Yes. He’s one of them. And Will’s outstanding at this. Of course, we have a great relationship with each other.
