It’s been a whirlwind of emotions for Detroit Lions players and fans over the last few days. As if the painful loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round wasn’t enough, the Lions organization is seeing their entire coaching staff being picked apart by other teams. It appears like the Lions will be losing both coordinators, and several position coaches—including OL coach Hank Fraley and defensive line coach Terrell Williams—are potential finalists for coordinator jobs elsewhere.
As of publishing, though, only one thing is certain: former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, and that has a lot of people upset. Johnson was expected to depart this season after producing three straight years of top-five scoring offenses in Detroit, but to see him immediately depart for a division rival is a tough pill to swallow.
But one Lions player with a unique perspective had the absolutely perfect reaction to the news. Enter Lions running back David Montgomery, via his Instagram page:
Montgomery, of course, came to Detroit in 2023 from the Chicago Bears organization. He has never minced words about how unhappy he was in Chicago, so to see his offensive coordinator willingly choose to go there has to be a strange feeling for him.
And if you’re wondering where that image originally came from, it’s when both Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs crashed a Jared Goff media session. Goff was asked about his favorite thing about Montgomery, and he shot that look at his quarterback anticipating his answer. Johnson was just photoshopped over Goff.
