Deebo Samuel Wants Out of 49ers – But How Will He Leave?

A potential blockbuster move is brewing in San Francisco. Deebo Samuel wants out of the 49ers, but the way he departs could surprise fans.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have granted Samuel and his agent, Tory Dandy, permission to seek a trade. The reason? Samuel believes his future is no longer in San Francisco.

 “It was a really tough conversation with Kyle (Shanahan) because of our relationship,” Samuel said today. “But I have to do what’s best for me. I’m beyond grateful to the 49ers for this opportunity, but now I think it’s time to find a new team.”

Trade or Release?

While Samuel wants a trade, finding a team willing to take on his contract might not be easy. The Athletic’s Matt Barrows even predicts that the 49ers could end up releasing him, making him a free agent.

 “There could be a team that wants to jump ahead of others to get him,” Barrows said. “But if Deebo’s agent tells that team, ‘No, he doesn’t want to play there,’ the deal is dead. So I think the most likely scenario is the 49ers release him and let him choose his next team.”

Declining Production – End of the Road in San Francisco?

Once a dynamic weapon for the 49ers, Samuel’s explosiveness has faded over the past two seasons.
