The Lions agreed to a one-year deal with defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad on Wednesday, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told ESPN.

Muhammad had three sacks in nine games for the Lions last season, making two starts after injuries ravaged the defensive.

Detroit Lions linebacker Al-Quadin Muhammad (69) sacks Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) during the second half at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024.

Muhammad originally signed to the Lions’ practice squad in early October, after Marcus Davenport was lost for the season to a torn triceps. He made his team debut three weeks later, after Aidan Hutchinson went down with a broken leg, and had two sacks in the Lions’ final three regular-season games.

“We brought him in, we had to use him basically immediately, got him out there and he gave us everything he had, but he had also just walked back into the building,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said in January. “So, he’s a little rusty, then trying to learn our terminology, and then scheme, too.

“The style in which we play was different than what he’s played in his career. We ask him to do things a little bit different, and so there was a growing period for a veteran guy, and he’s done it.”

Muhammad joins Hutchinson, Davenport and Josh Paschal among others in the Lions’ edge rush group. On Tuesday, the Lions re-signed defensive tackle Pat O’Connor, running back Craig Reynolds and tight end Shane Zylstra.

The team has re-signed 14 of its own free agents this offseason, and added cornerback D.J. Reed, defensive tackle Roy Lopez, linebacker Grant Stuard, tight end Kenny Yeboah and backup quarterback Kyle Allen in free agency.
