Detroit Lions set franchise records galore as they stay undefeated on road-HN

In their final road game of the year this season, the Detroit Lions beat the San Francisco 49ers in a NFC championship game rematch in Week 17 on Monday Night Football and set a slew of franchise records along the way.

The Lions (14-2) beat the San Francisco 49ers (6-10) 40-34 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara California.

Detroit trailed at halftime, 21-13, but scored on every possession in the second half before getting in victory formation for their 14th win of the season, a franchise record.

It was the second straight week the Lions topped their franchise record after getting their 13th win for the first time in their 95-year history with a road win over the Chicago Bears in Week 16.

Previously the team set a franchise record in 1991 with a 12-4 record to win the NFC Central division, which they tied last year with a 12-5 season to claim their first NFC North title.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16) talks to teammates before a snap against San Francisco 49ers during the first half at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024.

Additionally, the team closed out the regular season with an 8-0 undefeated record on the road and the longest road winning streak in franchise history.

It was their first win against the 49ers at home since 1975.

Individual records

Kerby Joseph, who so far this season has a nine interceptions, sits atop the 2024 regular season interception totals, is the first Lions safety to record at least nine interceptions and a pick-six since Jack Christiansen (1957).

His 16 interceptions are also the most by a Lions player throughout three seasons since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger.

Joseph finished the game with six tackles, two interceptions and two pass deflections.

Jake Bates, who had a viral moment while stretching on the sideline in-between kicks, passed Jason Hanson for a new franchise record for points in a season (135).
