Dodgers' injury update on Tyler Glasnow provides little clarity on his ...

After the Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation earlier this week, it’s looking like he’ll be out for a significant amount of time.

According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, Glasnow will be shut down from throwing for 10-14 days and will be “re-evaluated from there.” And just like that, the 31-year-old’s outlook is looking bleaker than it was a few days ago, when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts claimed that the right-hander was simply dealing with “overall body soreness” – which, quite frankly, sounds like it could be synonymous with “being over 30.”

Even if Glasnow is cleared to resume throwing after 10-14 days, he would still have to ramp back up and potentially make a rehab start or two in the minor leagues before being reinstated from the IL. That would mean the Dodgers would be without him for at least a month, and that’s a best-case scenario.

Dodgers’ injury update on Tyler Glasnow provides little clarity on his timeline

Given his lengthy injury history, this latest update from the Dodgers doesn’t exactly bode well for Glasnow. Since being traded to the Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season, he has dealt with five separate injuries, including cramps, back problems, an elbow sprain that kept him out of the postseason, and now a shoulder injury.

Again, that’s only in the last year. Glasnow had dealt with numerous back, oblique and elbow injuries prior to his time with the Dodgers, including a UCL injury that required Tommy John surgery when he was with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021.

Glasnow now joins a group of injured Dodgers pitchers that includes Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw and (technically) Shohei Ohtani, none of whom have clear timetables to return. The Dodgers just got Tony Gonsolin back for the first time since 2023, but it’s anyone’s guess how long he’ll be able to stay healthy.

Fortunately, the Dodgers learned from last season’s woes and stockpiled pitching depth in case injuries ravaged their staff again. Unfortunately, they didn’t think they would need to dip into that depth this early. The latest update on Glasnow provides little, if any, clarity on when he might return, but the Dodgers will have to hope that their reinforcements can tide them over in the meantime.
