The Los Angeles Dodgers have superseded the New York Yankees as the biggest public enemy in baseball. Now, the rich could be getting even richer.
Questions are popping up now about Bo Bichette’s future in Toronto after the Blue Jays signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a whopping $500 million extension. TJ French from Athlon Sports believes Bichette is as good as gone, and the Dodgers will come calling.
“There has been speculation about Toronto Blue Jays star shortstop Bo Bichette being traded for quite some time now, and the Dodgers have also reportedly been in on him,” wrote French.
Below is the full breakdown of the proposed trade.
- LA Dodgers acquire: SS Bo Bichette
- Toronto Blue Jays acquire: SP Dustin May, SS Alex Freeland (Dodgers No. 5 prospect)
Freeland is essentially blocked in Los Angeles right now, so moving him would provide the 23-year-old infielder with a path to the big leagues. The Dodgers could also be willing to move on from May when Ohtani returns to the mound on a regular basis.
As for the Dodgers, French sees this as a chance to fill a major hole in the lineup.
“Mookie Betts is in the midst of a positional change to shortstop but has had his troubles and may benefit by moving to second,” wrote French. “This would allow utilityman Tommy Edman to move to center field primarily, where the Dodgers have not received stable contributions from Andy Pages.”
A middle infield of Bichette and Betts would certainly make the Dodgers lineup more balanced and help them push for another World Series title. If Pages continues to struggle, expect this move or a similar one to be made by the trade deadline.
