Cactus League Game 10, 3/1/2025: Giants 5, Dodgers 6

GLENDALE Ariz. — 26-year-old right-hander Matt Sauer toed the rubber to begin Saturday afternoon’s affair in Glendale, Arizona, and three hitters into the game, allowing an RBI double to former KBO star Jung-Hoo Lee. Lee, who signed a nine-figure deal with San Francisco back in December of 2023, missed nearly all of last year after undergoing labrum surgery.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Luis Matos lined a single to center field to make it 2-0, San Francisco. After loading the bases, Sauer was replaced by former Cardinals reliever Giovanny Gallegos, who struck out David Villar, stranding three and keeping the score 2-0. The Dodger answered in the bottom of the inning, however, as Griffin Lockwood-Powell doubled home Hye-Seong Kim, who made a really nice read on Lockwood-Powell’s extra base knock.

The score stayed 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when Kim launched an opposite-field home run to left into the Dodger bullpen. To say the least, it’s been a rocky spring for Kim so far, and his display of power was surely a welcome sight for both Kim and the rest of the Dodgers organization.

In the 6th inning, Villar singled home Casey Schmitt to put San Francisco back ahead, before Freddie Freeman answered in the bottom half of the frame with a moonshot to right to tie the score at 3-3. Teoscar Hernandez followed with a double to left center, and James Outman brought him home with a sacrifice fly to give Los Angeles their first lead of the day, 4-3.

The lead was short-lived, however. In the 7th, Jerar Encarnación launched an absolute skyscraper of a two-run blast to straightaway center field that soared over the top of the 410-foot marker, and crashed into the hitters backdrop. 5-4 Giants. Once again, however, the Dodgers responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Josue De Paula singled home Kim, for his third run scored of the day.

The score stayed knotted at 5 until the bottom of the 8th, when twenty-three-year-old Venezuelan prospect Aaron Bracho smashed a cutter to left-center field for a solo home run, giving the Dodgers a 6-5 advantage.Chris Campos, who pitched a 1-2-3 eight inning for the Dodgers, got the Giants’ Hunter Bishop looking to end this one.

It’s the second 6-5 victory the Dodgers have notched in the last 24 hours, as they move to 4-6 in Cactus League Play. They’ll look to go for four straight tomorrow, as they’ve got split-squad games at the Athletics and home against the White Sox. First pitch for both contests is scheduled at 12:05 PM PST.
