Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed pitcher Roki Sasaki has reported arm soreness, manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday.

The team is sorting out whether it will require an injured list stint.

Sasaki last pitched on Friday and failed to record a strikeout over four innings. He allowed two walks, five hits and five runs while throwing 61 total pitches.

Right-hander J.P. Feyereisen is currently with the team, which hints at a player heading to the IL/paternity/bereavement list since he was optioned within the last 15 days.

The 23-year-old has been dealing with decreased fastball velocity in his last few starts after his MLB debut saw pitches upwards of 100 mph and an average fastball speed of 98 mph.

Sasaki is ranked in the 80th percentile among qualified pitchers with his 96 mph average on his heater, which is much lower than his averages during his four seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball. Batters have swung and missed on just 10.1% of Sasaki’s four-seamers this year.

Although there is immense potential with the right-hander given his size, past resume and devastating splitter in his arsenal, command was an issue from the start for Sasaki.

This season, the 23-year-old has thrown just 24 strikeouts to 22 walks in 34.1 innings. Over those eight starts, he has allowed 18 runs, totaling a 4.72 ERA.

The worst case-scenario for the Dodgers is that Sasaki becomes the next pitcher to land on the injured list in an already crowded pitching roster that’s currently sidelined.
