After L.A.’s 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Miami Marlins, manager Dave Roberts announced that Landon Knack will be called up from Triple-A to pitch for the team on Wednesday afternoon.

J.P. Feyereisen — the hard luck loser in Tuesday’s contest — will be shuttled back down to the minor leagues.

This scenario isn’t anything new for the Dodgers to navigate. Much like last year, the team is well-equipped to mix-and-match in order to account for injuries to the pitching staff.

Feyereisen was acquired less than a week ago once put on waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Having familiarity with him from when he pitched for the team last year, the Dodgers scooped him up to give themselves a fresh option. He was thrown into the lion’s den on Tuesday, tasked with trying to keep the score 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Unfortunately, the 32-year-old did not register an out. He gave up a walk and two hits, including the game-winning hit to Miami hitter Jesus Sanchez.

Without a doubt, the Dodgers are hoping Knack can give them some semblance of length. It isn’t known as to whether he’ll start Wednesday’s game or not. However, given the fact he is a starter by trade, the Dodgers would love around five or six innings out of him to avoid taxing an already beat-up bullpen.

Last year was Knack’s first real action in the big leagues. He was counted upon to give the team quality innings in the regular season and in the postseason. Knack compiled a 3-5 record with a 3.65 ERA in 15 appearances last season. He also pitched in three playoff games — the best of which came in Game 4 of the World Series where he threw four innings, allowing only one earned run and two hits.

This season, it’s been rough for Knack. In three appearances (two starts), the right-handed pitcher has a 7.27 ERA. He’s allowed seven earned runs, six walks, and nine hits in 8.2 innings.
