Los Angeles Dodgers star Tommy Edman was initially expected to return over the weekend during the team’s series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Then, he was expected to return Tuesday for the beginning of their homestand.

However, the latest update indicates Edman will not return as soon as the team hoped.

Manager Dave Roberts relayed the utility man’s ankle has not responded well to treatment. Edman seemingly took a step forward in his rehab, but his ankle continued to give him trouble when running.

Edman was placed on the injured with right ankle inflammation and will miss more time than anticipated.

“It’s going to take some time,” Roberts said over the weekend.

Prior to his injury, Edman was slashing .252/.295/.523 with eight home runs, 24 runs batted in, and an OPS of .818. The 30-year-old’s expected batting average for the 2025 season is .312, according to Baseball Savant, demonstrating that he’s been even been than his numbers show.

The Dodgers have been forced to use a mix of lineups early this season because of injuries or illness. Mookie Betts (stomach illness) and Freddie Freeman (ankle) both missed time to open the season.

Teoscar Hernandez missed a game because of a stomach illness a few weeks ago, and is currently on the IL with a Grade 1 adductor strain. While the Dodgers have been without two of their best hitters in the lineup, L.A. managed to split their road series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers went 6-4 on their 10-game road trip and return home atop the National League West.
