The speculation has ramped up this offseason that Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill wished he was still in Kansas City catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.
As it turns out, Hill is still catching passes from his former Chiefs teammate, but not outside and on the grass.
Hill spoke with former Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder during Super Bowl week on their podcast The Pivot, and he told Clark that he picks the Chiefs and Mahomes as his quarterback on Madden. (1:04:30 mark of video)
“I mean, you’ve got to play with Pat because he’s got all the X factors and sh*t,” Hill said while laughing. “You’ve got to play with Pat, or you’ve got to play with Josh Allen.”
It’s not really hard to understand why, as Hill would go on to admit that he plays with friends for big money bets, so clearly he’s riding with the players who give him the best chance to win, including his own former quarterback.
Hill has certainly had tremendous individual success since coming over to Miami from KC via trade in March 2022. His 2023 season was his career best with Tua Tagovailoa, setting or matching career highs in targets (171), catches (119), yards (1799), and receiving touchdowns (13). It was good enough to earn him first team All-Pro honors and the #1 spot on the NFL 100 list entering the 2024 season.
However, that “best chance to win” issue is something that’s resurfaced not just in video games, but in real life over the last month after Hill refused to come in the game late in Miami’s season-ending loss to the Jets and made comments after the game that included “I’m done, bro.”
Hill further raised some eyebrows recently when he made some comments to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk during Super Bowl week that he had second thoughts about leaving Kansas City.
“Always,” Hill said. “You always have thoughts like that. I mean, I’m human. So, at the end of the day, you’re always thinking in the back of your head like, ‘man, did I make the right decision?’ But at the same time, though, the way I was raised, I’m always thinking what God has planned for me in the future. And I’m blessed. I’m blessed with what I got. I’m blessed with the situation God has put me in.”
But what’s done is done, and a reunion between Hill and Mahomes in Kansas City doesn’t seem feasible. The Chiefs proved that they could win without their former superstar and put their focus on building championships in the trenches and on defense. It seems as though that’s something the Dolphins have yet to figure out.
Still, it’s good to know that Hill still enjoys catching passes from Mahomes – even if it’s just to win some Madden wagers rather than Super Bowl titles.
