In a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer, Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott touted Schottenheimer’s huge impact on the squad, adding that the 51-year-old tactician deserves every bit of opportunity.

Schottenheimer admitted he and Prescott have had hard conversations. He recalled an instance during training camp last summer when he pulled the three-time Pro Bowler after committing a pass interference.

When asked about it, the 31-year-old Prescott acknowledged it was a learning experience for both of them.

“It was a great moment of understanding and appreciating that sense of standard,” said Prescott in the report. “But that was a conversation that was very unpleasant on the front end, but it had to be addressed at some point or another, and it was, immediately after practice.”

He added: “It was two grown men coming to an understanding and appreciating each other for the competitiveness and the standard. So (I’m) excited for things like that to grow.

Schottenheimer is tasked with making the Cowboys into a serious contender. They haven’t made it past the divisional round in the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl in 1996.

Prescott seeks to bounce back after being limited to eight games this season due to a hamstring injury. He signed a four-year contract extension worth $240 million last year.

“We’ve got to get to running the ball, being a little bit more consistent on that,” noted Prescott.
