DONE DEAL: The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons have reportedly reached an agreement on a groundbreaking contract, setting a new precedent with this landmark deal. nhathung

A major narrative in NFL free agency is unfolding with significant developments. Micah Parsons, a defensive standout for the Dallas Cowboys, has been pursuing a contract that could redefine the NFL landscape. Recently, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns secured a contract extension at the onset of free agency, with a yearly average of $40 million, positioning him as the NFL’s highest-earning defensive player.

However, this record might soon be eclipsed. Reports emerged several days ago indicating Parsons’ pursuit of a groundbreaking $200 million contract extension, potentially surpassing Garrett’s agreement. The Cowboys and Parsons have reportedly settled on a new deal that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, as per Clarence Hill of All City DLLS, a team specialist.

Hill mentioned that Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have “come to terms.” Nonetheless, a potential complication is that Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, was excluded from the talks. For the deal’s finalization, Mulugheta’s endorsement is essential, yet no discussions have occurred between him and the Cowboys since the NFL Scouting Combine.

If Jerry Jones keeps screwing up, it might be time to consider trading Micah Parsons

Regardless, it seems this episode is nearing its conclusion. Even without the agent’s consent—or possibly awareness of the agreement—if Parsons is content with the terms, he might soon sign. Since being chosen in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Micah Parsons has consistently delivered exceptional performances for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Penn State alumnus has amassed 52.5 sacks and 256 tackles in his NFL tenure, earned four Pro Bowl selections, been named an All-Pro three times, and clinched the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021.
