Draymond Green Criticizes Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ Commitment to Winning

When Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, the move was met with widespread skepticism. Fans and analysts alike questioned the decision, but few critics were as vocal as Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

Despite being an NBA star, Green is an outspoken NFL fan and co-hosts a weekly Instagram-based NFL podcast with journalist Jordan Schultz. On a recent episode of the show, Green accused Jones of not genuinely wanting to win, claiming that many professional sports owners prioritize business over championships.

Green’s Bold Accusations

“I don’t think people realize how often and how normal it is that owners don’t want to win,” Green stated on the Why is Draymond Green Talking About Football with Jordan Schultz podcast. “Every owner doesn’t want to win a Super Bowl. Everybody says they want to win, but there aren’t many owners who are willing to do whatever it takes to win.”

Schultz agreed with Green’s assessment, arguing that Jones is not among the small group of NFL owners who are truly desperate to win at any cost. According to the two hosts, only three to eight owners per year are actively seeking a championship, while the rest remain content with profitability and franchise stability.

Jones’ Track Record

If Jones disagrees with Green’s assertion, his tenure as Cowboys’ owner and general manager may not support his case. Since purchasing the team in 1989, Jones oversaw a dominant early stretch that resulted in three Super Bowl titles within his first seven seasons. However, since the Cowboys’ last championship in 1995, the team has failed to advance past the NFC Championship Game.

Jones has been known for his loyalty to longtime personnel and his influence over team decisions, which critics argue has hampered the Cowboys’ ability to return to Super Bowl contention. With another coaching change now in place, the debate over Jones’ priorities will likely continue to rage on.

Looking Ahead

Schottenheimer’s tenure as head coach will ultimately determine whether this latest decision was the right one. If he can lead the Cowboys deep into the playoffs, Jones may finally silence his doubters. However, if the team continues to struggle, Green’s critique may only gain more traction in the sports world.
