During a Monday Appearance on the 105.3 The Fan, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones expressed his interest in signing current head coach Mike McCarthy to an extension. The admission came after the Dallas Cowboys’ win against divisional rivals Washington Commanders. As expected, a majority have opposed the idea, including former star Michael Irvin.

McCarthy, a former Super Bowl champion, despite enjoying a bit of good regular seasons, hasn’t been able to replicate them in the postseason. In the 2023-24 season, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card playoffs, putting the coach’s position under fire. The Cowboys haven’t won a single home game since, currently being one of the two teams with no wins at home this season.

Amid the hot seat rumors and locker room drama, thanks to Micah Parsons’ comments, Mike McCarthy was almost sure to be fired in the coming off-season. However, now there’s some dubiety on the same and Michael Irvin is not pleased.

In an appearance on FS1’s Speak, Irvin expressed his true feelings on the Jerry Jones’ idea. He also added that this was a move to take responsibility on Jerry Jones’ part.

Earlier, former Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Cowboys Troy Aikman backed Mike McCarthy while commenting on the primetime MNF game. Aikman was heard saying, “He is one hell of a football coach.

The Dallas Cowboys had been swirling around the new coaching options for some time now. At a point, Michael Irvin projected former player and HOFer Deion Sanders as a successor to McCarthy. The speculation soon ended when Sanders informed of his decision to stay in Colorado and revolutionize the Colorado Buffaloes.

Despite the same, Michael Irvin still wants his old teammate to take up the job. During a Tuesday evening live stream hosted by Irvin, a viewer asked if he saw himself as a suitable replacement for McCarthy, Irvin was quick to shut down the idea. He clarified that his only focus was on Sanders and humorously added that it wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the league if he took the job.

I would love to coach… [I’d] beat everybody. I’m 3-0 over at Pro Bowl coaching… I’m undefeated. That said, I can’t coach like Deion. Deion’s my man right now.

Michael Irvin said

Deion Sanders has lifted the Buffaloes from a 4-8 season last year to 8-3 with a game to go. They are ranked fourth in the league behind Arizona, Iowa, and BYU who all share 9-2 overall record. Although a loss last week against the Kansas Jayhawks dented their championship chances, the Buffaloes head into Oklahoma matchup on Friday with hopes.
