Securing the title of reigning NFL champion means maintaining high standards for future challenges without lowering expectations for the upcoming season. The Philadelphia Eagles are striving to keep their roster strong, and acquiring AJ Dillon exemplifies this effort.
After being sidelined for the entire season with the Green Bay Packers due to a severe neck injury, the skilled running back has announced his full recovery. Nick Sirianni can now rely on him if needed. “We consulted specialists from all over the country. We’re ready,” Dillon shared this week via NFLcom. “I’m thrilled to be here, ready to play, and contribute to Philadelphia’s ongoing success.”
After spending five years in Wisconsin, Dillon has secured a one-year deal with Philadelphia, offering an alternative to Saquon Barkley in the running back position. Due to his neck injury, Dillon missed all playing time last season in Green Bay.
The gravity of the injury required a full season of recovery. Coming back from such a delicate injury is challenging, especially when it involves a sensitive area. During his recovery, the former Boston College star pondered his future and ultimately chose to continue his career for at least another season.
“When you first hear that kind of news, you naturally become cautious, ensuring everything is checked and balanced,” he commented. “But I’ve received all the green lights, so I’m feeling great. I don’t experience any lingering effects. It’s something you work through, and now I’m here in Philly, ready to make the most of it.”
What role will Dillon assume? While many might assume AJ Dillon’s arrival at the Philadelphia Eagles is to serve as the main backup to Saquon Barkley, the reality is different. The team currently ranks him as the RB3, indicating he is lower on the depth chart than anticipated. Although rookie Will Shipley is currently the primary backup for Barkley, time will reveal whether Sirianni will favor the former Packer or opt for the young ex-Clemson player as an alternative.
