Novak Djokovic will kick start his season in 2025 under former rival and current coach Andy Murray, who retired at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Many think Novak Djokovic‘s partnership with Andy Murray will be a success. Former player Jeremy Chardy however believes the collaboration will be difficult because, though they respect each other, they’re not close friends.

Murray reportedly won’t be in the Serb’s box at the Brisbane International where he will kick start his season. The Scot however will be in Melbourne where Djokovic will be chasing his 25th Major. Chardy, who coaches compatriot Ugo Humbert, was asked if Djokovic and Murray would shout at each other during matches.

Murray joined Djokovic’s team after retiring from tennis at the Paris Olympics. They have played against each other 36 times and even met four times in the Australian Open finals.

Jeremy Chardy doesn’t think Novak Djokovic hired Andy Murray to have fun. He said both of them are taking their roles very seriously because the goal is to win Grand Slam titles.

For me, they will go for the full year on the big tournaments and if it’s going well they will continue. When you’re an athlete, you know that nothing is magical so it’s not because Andy is coming that it’s going to change everything but we need six months to start to see improvement and to be able to do some work.

Jeremy Chardy told the Daily Express

The 37-year-old Serb last won a Major at the 2023 US Open and had a season to forget in 2024 as he was trophyless on the tour, reaching just two finals (at Wimbledon and at the Shanghai Masters). He perhaps won’t call this season an unsuccessful one because he fulfilled one of his major goals, winning the Olympic gold medal.

In his first tournament, in Brisbane, Djokovic will also be playing doubles with Nick Kyrgios, who will be making his return to tennis after an injury layoff.
