Former British tennis star Laura Robson has chosen Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz over Jannik Sinner to finish the season as World No. 1. Sinner, the current World No. 1, had an exceptional 2024, delivering one of the most dominant seasons in tennis history.

Zverev secured the second spot in the rankings after claiming two Masters 1000 titles and reaching his second career Grand Slam final. Alcaraz, despite also winning two Grand Slams like Sinner, ended the season ranked third due to a rough period following the Paris Olympics.

Robson’s prediction might come true if Sinner’s ongoing doping investigation leads to a suspension. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has confirmed that the case will not be resolved until after the Australian Open.

If the ruling goes against Sinner, the Italian could miss key Grand Slam tournaments in the latter half of the season. This would include the US Open, where he is the defending champion.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has been backed by former British tennis player Laura Robson to defend his Australian Open title. The former British No. 1 shared her thoughts on Eurosport, speaking alongside tennis experts Alex Corretja and Mats Wilander.

Sinner’s journey to the top of the world rankings began with his triumph at the Australian Open this year. The Italian defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and then staged an incredible comeback from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev in the final, securing his first Grand Slam title.

Heading into the 2025 Australian Open, Sinner is undoubtedly one of the favorites to win at Melbourne Park again. However, he will face tough competition from Djokovic, who now comes with a fresh perspective under his new coach, Andy Murray.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz could pose a significant challenge for Sinner. Alcaraz dominated their rivalry in 2024, winning all three of their matches. He will also be aiming to achieve the Career Grand Slam, potentially
