Tyler Glasnow tallied five innings in his final start of the spring, racking up nine strikeouts and allowing just one run.

The Dodgers played visitor against the crosstown Angels on Monday at Angel Stadium, with the Dodgers blowing a two-run lead in the ninth inning to fall 5-4.

Tyler Glasnow was given the start for the second game of the Freeway Series, last having appeared in a relief outing against the Hanshin Tigers ahead of the Tokyo Series. The Dodgers decided to ramp up his workload to regular season standards after tossing six innings in cactus league play.

Glasnow was greeted rudely by Taylor Ward in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, his second in as many days, but the right-hander managed to strike out the side without allowing any further damage. He combined to toss just 29 pitches over his next three innings, registering four strikeouts while keeping Angels hitters off the base paths.

Glasnow labored in the fifth inning, tossing 21 pitches (identical to his first inning pitch count), but managed to collect two more strikeouts to his night, finishing with nine on the night, the most by any Dodgers pitcher in an outing during this spring.

Glasnow finishes his spring with a 3.27 ERA with a whopping 19 strikeouts in just 11 innings of work over four starts. He will make his regular season debut on Monday as he opens up a three game home series against the Atlanta Braves.

Notes

  • Teoscar Hernández launched a solo home run to left field to tie the score at 1 in the top of the second inning. He added to the Dodgers’ lead with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Austin Barnes gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run single.
  • Anthony Banda struggled in his lone of inning of work after relieving Glasnow, allowing a solo home run to Mike Trout which raised his spring ERA to 6.35. Blake Treinen pitched a scoreless seventh inning, retiring the side in order while picking up two strikeouts. Tanner Scott came in for a clean eighth inning where he struck out two to end the inning.
  • Right-hander Jose Rodríguez was handed the ball in the ninth inning to record the save. He gave up a solo home run to Jorge Soler to lead things off before allowing two straight baserunners with nobody out. With the bases loaded, Rodriguez allowed the game tying run to score on a groundout before Ward walked it off with an opposite field single.

Up next

The Dodgers will wrap up their three game exhibition series and their spring schedule on Tuesday against the Angels in Anaheim (6:07 p.m. PT, SportsNet LA). Dustin May makes his third and final start of the spring, while right-hander Jack Kochanowicz gets the start for the Angels.
