GOOD NEWS: Buffalo Bills Tie All-Time NFL Record in Blowout Win vs the Jets.ANHTRUC.

The Buffalo Bills accomplished many things in their Week 17 smashing of the New York Jets, 40-14. While it’s 95% a Josh Allen and team stat, when the Bills backups came into the pummeling of the Jets, it was Mitch Trubisky and Tyrell Shavers who tied an NFL record. Their 69-yard touchdown pass connection saw the Bills have 13 different players catch a touchdown for the team this year, a record-tying stat.

New York Jets v Buffalo Bills

While Josh Allen has tossed 28 touchdowns this season, he’s done it with 12 different players on the receiving end. That list includes Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mack Hollins, Ty Johnson, Dalton Kincaid, James Cook, Curtis Samuel, Ray Davis, Dawson Knox, Quintin Morris, Amari Cooper, and Josh Allen, yes he caught his own touchdown pass. The Bills’ “everybody eats,” mantra on offense is truthful, as Shavers is the 13th player to catch a pass, tying an all-time record. There’s still one game left to go and with the Bills likely to play their backups with the two-seed already clinched, we could see the record get broken.

Overall, it was a big day as the Bills accomplished multiple stats outside of that one. Josh Allen became the first player in NFL History to record five straight 40-plus total touchdown seasons. Allen also notched another rushing touchdown, his 12th of the season, giving him 65 career rushing touchdowns, which ties O.J. Simpson for the most in franchise history. Amari Cooper also eclipsed 10,000 career receiving yards, becoming just the 57th player in NFL history to join the 10k club. James Cook scored his 15th rushing touchdown of the season, tying Josh Allen (2023) for the most in a season in franchise history.

The Bills also went undefeated at home this season, the first time they’ve done so since 1990, and just the third time in franchise history. The Buffalo defense recorded a safety, recovered an opposing fumble, and notched two interceptions against the Jets, the first time they’ve done so since 1998. The team has also now scored 509 points on the season, which established a new franchise high of 501 that they set in 2020. They are also up to 63 total touchdowns on the season, setting a new franchise record that was 60, also set in 2020. Jordan Phillips’ interception today brings the team’s total to three picks by defensive tackles this season, the most by an NFL team since 2011.

Josh Allen earned his 76th career regular-season win, breaking a tie for the most ever in a player’s first seven seasons. Allen also holds the record for most total touchdowns which is now at 262, and total yards, which is now at 30,595, in a player’s first seven seasons. The Bills signal caller entered the day tied for the most total touchdowns in a player’s first eight seasons and has since taken the lead with his 262 and counting, with his eighth season coming up next year.

A massive day for the stat sheets and record books up in Buffalo as the team heads into the playoffs as the two-seed.
