The Green Bay Packers prioritized enhancing their wide receiver lineup this offseason, emerging from the 2025 NFL draft with two rookie receivers: Matthew Golden, a first-round pick, and Savion Williams, chosen in the third round.
These selections might have caused unease among the team’s current wide receiver corps, but it seems general manager Brian Gutekunst promptly addressed any worries.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gutekunst contacted Jayden Reed’s agent to clarify the team’s strategy for the position, assuring that Reed would continue to hold the top receiver spot. This draft marked the first time since 2002, when Javon Walker was picked 22nd overall from Florida State, that the Packers selected a receiver in the first round.
Golden was taken with the 23rd pick this year. Reed, a second-round choice by Green Bay in 2023, has made an impressive start to his NFL tenure. Over two seasons, he has accumulated 119 catches, 1,650 yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns, in addition to three rushing touchdowns.
While depth is crucial in Green Bay’s receiving unit, it appears that despite the acquisition of Golden and Williams, the Packers intend for Reed to remain their primary target throughout the season.
