World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is currently the hottest name in tennis. The Italian star won two Grand Slam titles, the ATP Finals, and helped Italy retain the Davis Cup. However, not everything is going smoothly for Sinner, as Grand Slam winner Mark Woodforde believes the shadow of a doping scandal may loom larger over him.

Sinner reportedly tested positive twice for clostebol in March last year while competing at Indian Wells. News of this leaked to the press in August, shortly after his Cincinnati Open victory.

Despite the doping allegations, Sinner has not faced any suspension from tennis authorities. This has led to heavy criticism from the media and fellow players, particularly Nick Kyrgios.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has stated that a final verdict on Sinner’s doping case will be reached in 2025, with an estimated date in March. This timeline allows Sinner to defend his title at the Australian Open.

In the lead-up to the Australian Open 2025, top players are preparing with matches that simulate Grand Slam conditions. Rod Laver Arena will host a series of charity matches from January 7-10, offering fans an exciting preview of the action.

These matches are part of AO Opening Week and feature tennis stars in unique events, including Red Bull Bassline, a mixed doubles charity match, and “A Night with Novak.” Tickets start at $30, with proceeds supporting the Australian Tennis Foundation.

World No.1 Jannik Sinner will face Alexei Popyrin on January 7. Sinner, the reigning AO and US Open champion, has been in dominant form, winning 29 of his last 30 matches. Popyrin, known for his breakout 2024 season, has proven he can challenge the best. Their match promises thrilling tennis as both players look to build momentum before the tournament.

On January 8, Qinwen Zheng will take on Elina Svitolina. Zheng, a rising star and Olympic gold medalist, has become a top-five player. Svitolina, a former world No.3 and Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, brings experience and grit. Their clash will showcase Zheng’s power against Svitolina’s defensive skills, making for an exciting match.

The highly anticipated match between Carlos Alcaraz and Alex de Minaur is also set for January 8. On January 10, the four-time Grand Slam champion will play Popyrin, while Sinner meets Stefanos Tsitsipas in a rivalry match. These games offer fans a chance to see top-tier tennis while supporting a good cause.
