Greg Olsen finally revealed the truth that Chiefs fans have long believed: Travis Kelce is the irreplaceable soul of the team.

Travis Kelce is certainly closer to the end of his career than he is to the beginning of it but the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is returning for at least one more season. People will debate all season long if this will be Kelce’s swan song or if he’ll continue to play past 2025 but former NFL tight end and NFL on FOX broadcaster Greg Olsen recently discussed how Kelce has a luxury not many other players have.

“He’s got the world at his fingertips,” Olsen said, while on USA Today Sports. “I think he’s one of the unique guys that’s gonna be able to control how he leaves the game and when. And that’s not the reality for most guys.”

Not only did Olsen point out how Kelce is in a rare spot but he argued that the Chiefs tight end’s 2024 season wasn’t as miserably bad as other people have said it was. Sure, Kelce had a career-low in receiving yards this past year but he had the fourth-most receptions in his career with 97. He’s hardly washed up and Olsen said just that.

“He was highly productive last year. I think we’ve kind of gotten spoiled that we think every year he’s gonna have 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. And I don’t think people realize just how hard that is. I wouldn’t put a limit on anything he does.”

Greg Olsen said out loud what Chiefs fans have been arguing all offseason

As for when Olsen could see the Chiefs superstar calling it a career and riding off into the sunset, he didn’t really have a set answer.

“Could he play for one more year and call it? Sure. Could he play for two or three more years? Sure. I don’t know where he stands. I know he’s obviously preparing and training hard. I wouldn’t be surprised with any path that he takes, and he certainly has a lot of options.”

Chiefs fans won’t be shocked by whatever Kelce decides to do. If he plays one more year and then calls it a career, fans would wish him well. If he plays for two or three more years and then decides to hang up the cleats, again, fans would wish him well and he’d be an easy Hall of Fame inductee five years later.

Kelce might not be putting up the numbers he once did but he’s 35 years old now and there’s naturally going to be some slowing down there. Tight ends take an absolute beating and Kelce is no exception to that rule. He’s mostly been able to avoid injuries during his lengthy career too and Chiefs fans are thankful for that because look at how productive he was from pretty much his first full season to now.

When Kelce does decide to retire, he’ll have earned it. For now, let’s just enjoy watching him play because his time in the league won’t last forever.
