Hailie Deegan didn’t have much success in her three years as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Truck Series, but she has a new opportunity for 2024. Deegan drives the No. 15 Xfinity car full-time for AM Racing and has two races under her belt. Unfortunately, it has been a rough start as Deegan has two finishes of 27th place at Atlanta and 37th place at Daytona.
Before the season, Deegan spoke to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass about her opportunity with AM Racing in 2024. She talked about the challenges of adjusting to a new car and what would be a successful season for her in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
“I wouldn’t say reset, but just like an unexpected opportunity that kind of fell into my lap midway through last season,” Deegan said. “The biggest challenge is getting used to a new car. There are a lot of things different. There’s just different things you’ve got to learn compared to the truck, how they handle differently, how they respond to your reactions differently, how changes affect them.”
“A good season, I think, is being consistently top-15. [And then] to top-10. I’d say my big goal is to make the playoffs. Everyone here’s goal is going to win races, but hopefully, we won’t be in the position where we have to win to make the playoffs.”
Deegan crashed out of the race at Daytona and didn’t have much speed at Atlanta; however, those were superspeedway races. The driver of the No. 15 car goes to Las Vegas Motor Speedway next, which is the site of her Xfinity Series debut. Deegan’s run at Las Vegas will paint a bigger picture of AM Racing’s status, but it may take her some time to get adjusted overall.
