During his press conference on Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub praised recently retired punter Dustin Colquitt after signing his one-day contract.
“He was a great teammate, probably the biggest practical joker that I’ve ever seen. ” He’s just a great person and a very talented punter,” said Toub. “To play 15 years in the NFL, or 15 years for one team, is impressive enough. Probably the best inside the 20 punter I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of good ones over the years, and he just had a special skill at placing that ball inside the 20.”
For 15 seasons, Colquitt experienced the franchise’s highs and lows. Toub detailed the many changes he had to deal with in Kansas City.
“He had to hold for nine different kickers in his career.” Toub praised his holding on field goals: “He had five different head coaches. It’s unbelievable how many people turn over in 15 years.”
In 238 regular-season games with the Chiefs, Colquitt tallied 1,167 punts and an impressive 477 inside the 20. He won one Super Bowl title with Kansas City in the 2019 season.
