Houston Texans return blocked extra point for two points after miracle touchdown-HN

Texans Secure Unusual Two Points in Wild Card Win Over Chargers

The Houston Texans delivered an unforgettable moment in their Wild Card playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, scoring a rare two points that encapsulated a wild series of events.

The Breathtaking Sequence

The action began with the Chargers in a precarious situation, facing a 3rd-and-26 from their own 14-yard line. Quarterback Justin Herbert shocked the Texans’ defense with an 86-yard touchdown pass to Ladd McConkey, turning what seemed like an impossible scenario into an electrifying score. This came immediately after Herbert was sacked on consecutive plays.

With momentum on their side, the Chargers attempted the extra point, only for Texans defender Denico Autry to block the kick behind the line of scrimmage. What followed was a chaotic scramble:

  • Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker, seemingly confused by the rules, batted the ball in an attempt to end the play.
  • The ball remained live and was scooped up by Texans defender D’Angelo Ross, who sprinted it back for a rare two-point score.

Instead of narrowing their deficit to 23-13, the Chargers found themselves trailing 25-12, significantly increasing their uphill battle.

Texans Seal the Victory

Houston’s defense and special teams momentum carried over into the final minutes of the game. Running back Joe Mixon added a touchdown with 3:42 remaining, extending the Texans’ lead to 32-12.

The Texans’ performance marked a stunning turnaround, as they were shut out until less than a minute before halftime. However, a quick 10-point surge before the second quarter ended shifted the momentum in their favor, and they never relinquished control.

A Remarkable Postseason Start

This unusual two-point play and subsequent dominance showcased the Texans’ resilience and knack for capitalizing on their opponents’ mistakes. Head coach DeMeco Ryans praised his team’s composure:

“We’ve been talking all year about finding ways to win, and tonight we showed what we’re made of. Special teams, defense, offense — everyone played a role.”

The victory advances Houston to the Divisional Round and solidifies their reputation as a dangerous contender in the NFL playoffs.
