There’s another common denominator between Coby White and the legendary Michael Jordan.
White, who, like “His Airness,’ played college basketball for the North Carolina Tar Heels before being drafted by the Chicago Bulls, has joined the six-time NBA champion in an extremely exclusive Bulls club during Monday night’s game at United Center in Chicago versus the visiting Indiana Pacers.
“Coby joins Michael Jordan, Derrick Rose, Reggie Theus, Luol Deng, and Ben Gordon as the only Bulls players to reach this milestone at age 25 or younger,” read a post by Chicago on X.
White, who had just turned 25 in February, started the day with 5,974 career points in the NBA. He would hit the 6,000-point mark with an impressive performance against the Pacers, dropping 29 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes.
Coby had a slow start against Indiana, only scoring two points on 1-for-4 shooting in the first quarter, which dented his chances to reach the said milestone in the same night. However, the former Tar Heel began to get hot in the second period, where he dropped 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting. He added 13 points more in the second half to complete the feat.
With Zach LaVine gone in Windy City and Giddey suffering an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the Bulls’ 121-103 win over Indiana, White could get a heavier load on offense going forward. He is currently averaging 19.1 points on a 43.6 field goal percentage in the 2024-24 NBA season.
