The New York Jets gained a former Detroit Lions coach this offseason with ties to the franchise as Aaron Glenn returned home, but later lost a strong up-and-coming defender as cornerback DJ Reed decided to sign with Glenn’s former team.

The departure of Glenn means that the Jets will have to make due without a player who often ranked among Pro Football Focus’ top 10 players at his position as they look to continue their strong defensive minded ways under Detroit’s former defensive coordinator.

On Saturday, the Jets’ top cornerback, Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner, revealed the hilarious way he says he prepared Reed for his new opportunity with the Lions in Motown.

“Its crazy because I showed him how to do the blade dance when we was in NY just for him to go to Detroit lol,” Gardner wrote on X.

“I was culturing my dawg for Detroit without even knowing,” Gardner said, referring to a Detroit based hip hop song and cultural phenomenon about “bossing up” and “getting your act together.”

The Lions will need Reed to learn the ins and outs of new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s scheme quick with former starter Carlton Davis III now in New England.

The Lions will likely go from hunters to hunted after their 15-2 regular season garnered the top seed in the NFC last year under head coach Dan Campbell.
