Jets WR Begs Team For Second Chance..ANHTRUC.

New York Jets: Ex-Jets Season Review, Part III - AFC Offense - Gang Green Nation

The New York Jets are caught in a bit of a bind with their wide receiver roster. Outside of the dynamic Garrett Wilson, the cupboard’s looking pretty bare.

This isn’t great news for Justin Fields, who could use some more reliable targets in his arsenal. Enter Robbie Chosen, the artist formerly known as Robby Anderson, who’s vying for a comeback with the team.

Chosen’s no longer the rising star he once was, but he could offer a low-cost, motivated option worth considering for the Jets.

“I’m open to every team. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m too good for any team.

I’m just hoping for a great opportunity, but the Jets would mean a lot. My career started there, and the culture that I know that they’re building and everything.

Not to single any team out, but that would be special. It would be nostalgic,” said Chosen.

Looking back, Chosen’s exit from the Jets in 2019 during the tumultuous Adam Gase era wasn’t the smoothest. Yet, he found immediate success with the Carolina Panthers, posting an impressive year with 95 receptions and 1,096 yards.

However, his stock took a hit soon after, as the following seasons saw a dip in his numbers—53 receptions for 519 yards in 2021, and then even leaner times with only 20 catches for 282 yards in 2022 as he split time between Carolina and Arizona. Not exactly maintaining that first-year shine.

The past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins weren’t kind to him either; he played only 11 games with a mere 10 targets and was subsequently released in September. It’s clear things have been rocky since that standout year in 2020.

So why should the Jets take a chance on him now? Well, that’s where his cost-effectiveness and the potential upside come into play.

During his first stint with the Jets, Chosen was no slouch. Over his four years, he amassed 207 catches for 3,059 yards.

Impressively, he pulled this off without the luxury of a stable quarterback situation, catching passes from ten different starters, including names like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Darnold, and Josh McCown. That makes his achievements all the more notable.

Since leaving the Jets, he’s shown he’s still got it; that 2020 season with over 1,000 receiving yards proved as much. Yet, his decline over the past couple of years naturally raises eyebrows. After all, his opportunities have dwindled due to roster decisions, including a fall-out with a Panthers coach and challenging environments in Carolina and Arizona.

Now, is it possible Chosen’s downturn reflects a loss of form? Of course.

But let’s not overlook that Miami’s receiver room was particularly competitive, and sometimes, a player’s full skill set isn’t reflected in such stats alone. Route running and hands don’t just disappear overnight.

If the Jets gamble on him, they might just unlock a spirited, rejuvenated Chosen ready to prove he still belongs in the NFL. And even if he doesn’t become the standout star he once was, adding a determined player who’s hungry for redemption can only boost team morale. With limited free-agency options available and a need for receiver depth, Chosen could be the kind of low-risk, high-reward puzzle piece that fits perfectly into their plans.

Simply put, the Jets need a receiver. Chosen needs a team.

Could this be a match made in football heaven? Time will tell, but it’s certainly worth a shot.
