Jordan Love’s Tough Season: A Year of Adversity and Growth
High Hopes, Disappointing Results
The Green Bay Packers entered the season with high expectations, but their journey ended in disappointment. Despite finishing 11-6 and ranking third in offensive DVOA, the team struggled to meet its potential. Key losses against top NFC contenders, a third-place finish in the NFC North, and an early playoff exit against the Philadelphia Eagles left fans and analysts questioning what went wrong.
A Season Defined by Injuries
A major factor in the Packers’ struggles was quarterback Jordan Love’s battle with injuries throughout the season. From Week 1, adversity followed him. Playing in Brazil, Love suffered a torn MCL, an injury that set off a chain reaction of physical setbacks. His knee issue led to a groin strain, and later in the season, he dealt with an elbow injury that further hampered his performance.
Love spoke candidly about these challenges on the Up and Adams Show, acknowledging the difficulties of playing through pain.
“Every year is a year of growth. This season, I had to battle through multiple injuries and fight through adversity,” Love said. “There were a lot of highs and lows, a rocky season that taught me valuable lessons.”
Pushing Through the Pain
After his initial knee injury in São Paulo, Love was never truly at 100%—physically or mentally. He missed two games but returned earlier than expected, determined to push through the pain. However, the lingering effects of his injuries made mobility a struggle, a critical component of his game as a quarterback.
“Week 1, the MCL injury was the big one,” Love explained. “I missed two games, came back early, and fought through it. It really limited my mobility. A few weeks later, I strained my groin because of the knee. Every week was rehab, just trying to get my body ready for game day. But that’s the NFL—no one is ever truly 100%.”
Performance Despite the Setbacks
Even with these physical challenges, Love managed to put together a respectable season. He finished 10th in EPA per play and 15th in success rate, demonstrating resilience and the ability to perform under less-than-ideal conditions.
His struggles this season may have slowed the Packers’ progress, but they also provided invaluable experience. Love’s ability to battle through adversity and still deliver solid performances is a testament to his potential as Green Bay’s franchise quarterback. With an offseason to fully recover and build on the lessons learned, he’ll aim to come back stronger—ready to lead the Packers to greater success.
