GREEN BAY, WI — As rookie minicamp gets underway in Titletown, Packers quarterback Jordan Love wasted no time setting the tone for the 2025 season — and for the team’s newest defensive additions, his message was loud and clear.
Speaking to reporters after Saturday’s session, Love offered a pointed welcome to rookie cornerbacks Matthew Golden and Savion Williams, who were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft to bolster Green Bay’s secondary.
“They’ve got the talent — no doubt about that,” Love said. “But talent alone isn’t enough in this league. I told them straight up: Be prepared to work. Be prepared to compete. Be prepared to help us chase a Super Bowl championship. That’s the standard now.”
Love, coming off a breakout 2024 season that saw the Packers return to playoff form, has quickly embraced his role as a team leader. His direct approach reflects a shift in culture within the Green Bay locker room — one focused on accountability, unity, and long-term success.
Both Golden and Williams come into the league with high expectations. Golden, known for his elite ball-tracking skills and physicality, and Williams, a rangy athlete with raw speed and upside, are being counted on to inject youth and hunger into the Packers’ defensive backfield.
Head coach Matt LaFleur echoed Love’s sentiment, saying the team’s focus is squarely on building a championship-caliber defense around its rising offensive core.
“Jordan’s setting the tone, and we love to see that. These rookies have an incredible opportunity in front of them, but they’re going to have to earn every rep.”
Love also made it clear that leadership isn’t just about offense.
“I’m not just here to lead the guys catching passes. I’m here to push the whole team — offense, defense, special teams — because that’s what it takes to bring a Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.”
With expectations rising and a new wave of talent entering the fold, the Packers’ message is simple: Championships aren’t given — they’re earned.
