Josh Jacobs: Packers Need ‘Proven’ No. 1 Receiver.D

Green Bay Packers: The Road to Super Bowl Glory

In a recent interview with Milwaukee radio station 97.3 The Game, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs emphasized the critical “three pieces” the team needs to take the next step toward Super Bowl glory. As the Packers rebuild and refocus their efforts for the future, Jacobs, with his experience and insight, outlined the key ingredients for success in 2024.

The Need for a Proven Receiver

Among the pieces Jacobs believes the Packers are missing, one stands out — a seasoned receiver. With the team already boasting a young and talented group of wide receivers, Jacobs sees the necessity for an established No. 1 option who can provide consistency in the passing game. While the potential is there, he believes a proven veteran could help bridge the gap.

“I think we need a guy who’s already proven to be a No. 1,” Jacobs said. “Someone who will be a bit more consistent, especially in big moments. That’s how we take it to the next level.”

When asked about the possibility of reuniting with his former teammate, Davante Adams, Jacobs didn’t hesitate to speak highly of the veteran receiver, suggesting that if the price is right, the Packers should consider bringing him back to Green Bay.

“If he comes at the right price, tell him to slide,” Jacobs remarked, making it clear that bringing back a familiar face like Adams could be the spark the Packers’ offense needs.

Building a Championship Culture

While Jacobs’ remarks about the receiver corps may have raised a few eyebrows within the team, they reflect a larger reality for the Packers. Despite an impressive performance from Jacobs, who finished the 2023 season with 1,329 rushing yards and 16 total touchdowns, Green Bay ultimately fell short in the playoffs, exiting in the wild-card round. However, Jacobs remains optimistic about the team’s future, believing that the right additions and growth from younger players will elevate the Packers to championship contention.

“The culture is there,” Jacobs said. “Everyone has a winning mindset. We come in every day and give it our all at practice because we all want to be great.”

As the Packers continue to grow, Jacobs sees clear paths to improvement. With his experience from playing alongside defensive superstars like Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett, Jacobs sees the value in having elite players who can impact the game in every aspect. He’s even reached out to both Crosby and Garrett, suggesting that Green Bay would benefit from their talents.

“We would love to have them up here,” Jacobs said, giving a glimpse into his belief that the Packers need that additional defensive firepower to complement their offensive growth.

Paying Tribute to Real Heroes

While Jacobs is focused on football, his Super Bowl appearance wasn’t just about the game. He also took the time to honor those who serve beyond the gridiron. As part of a USAA program, Jacobs met Kevin Bennett, a retired Marine Corps veteran who served 34 years and participated in 10 overseas deployments. Jacobs expressed gratitude for Bennett’s service and praised him for the sacrifices made for the country.

“Those are the real heroes,” Jacobs said, reflecting on how the work of veterans and first responders makes everything the players do on the field possible.

A Stellar 2023 Season: But More to Achieve

Looking back on the 2023 season, Jacobs believes that even though his numbers were stellar, there was more he could have achieved. With 15 rushing touchdowns, Jacobs tied the third-most rushing touchdowns in Packers history, and he had a streak of eight consecutive games with a touchdown — matching Davante Adams’ record.

“Honestly, I feel like I left a lot out there,” Jacobs admitted. “A few touchdowns and a few hundred yards were called back due to penalties, and there’s always room for improvement. But with the team we have, I’m excited for what’s next.”

As the Packers prepare for the 2024 season, Jacobs’ focus is on maximizing his potential and continuing to evolve as a key piece in their quest for a Super Bowl.

With the right additions, improved consistency, and a commitment to excellence, the Green Bay Packers are primed for a promising future, and Jacobs is eager to contribute every step of the way.
