Andy Murray has joined Novak Djokovic‘s team, at least till the Australian Open. Andy’s mother Judy Murray commented on the partnership and joked that now she would have to back the Serb during his matches.

Djokovic, though he accomplished the Golden Slam after winning the Olympic gold medal in Paris, was trophyless on the ATP Tour in 2024, and for the first time since 2017, he failed to take home a Grand Slam title.

In March this year, he parted ways with Croatian coach Goran Ivanisevic and in November; he announced his collaboration with Andy, who retired at the Paris Olympics. Judy said that though Andy has competed in many matches on the court, they have a good bond off the field.

Murray’s main task will be to guide Djokovic to his 11th Australian Open and his 25th Grand Slam title Down Under. They might extend their collaboration after the Australian Open.

During the same interview with The Herald, Judy Murray slammed Tennis Scotland because of a failed $25.5 million project. Judy wanted to build a tennis center near the Murray family’s home in Dunblane, but due to high construction cost, the project was unsuccessful.

Judy felt had the sports authority and other stakeholders provided the help, things would look different. She also accused Tennis Scotland of ruining Andy Murray’s career and of not doing much for the growth of tennis in Scotland. A spokesperson from Tennis Scotland has now responded to the criticism.

Murray played his last singles match in the fourth round of the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships. He gave a walkover to Jordan Thompson after suffering an injury.
