Braves Claim Kevin Herget from Mets, Option Him to Triple-A Gwinnett
The Atlanta Braves have added some pitching depth by claiming right-handed reliever Kevin Herget off waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced. Herget has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he will provide additional bullpen depth for the organization.
Herget, 34, made just one appearance for the Mets this season before being designated for assignment. Since making his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, he has also pitched for the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. Across his big league career, Herget has logged 25 relief appearances, totaling 44.2 innings, with a strikeout rate of under 20 percent—a figure that suggests limited dominance at the major league level.

Despite those modest numbers, Herget brings some value to the Braves’ system. He still has a minor league option remaining, giving Atlanta added flexibility as they manage pitching workloads and potential injuries later in the season. This move required no corresponding roster adjustment, as the Braves already had an open spot on their 40-man roster.
Herget has also seen action in 13 Triple-A games this season, continuing to serve as a depth arm with experience. While not projected to be a major contributor, his presence gives the Braves another option should bullpen reinforcements become necessary.
And for clarification: Kevin Herget is not related to Jimmy Herget, who appeared in eight games for the Braves last year.
