JUST-IN; From Bust to Bullpen Savior: Surprise Fix for Braves Bullpen As Ex-Top Prospect Eyeing Stunning Comeback — At a New Position! TS.DHUNG.

Although Bryse Wilson is more recognized for his time as a starting pitcher, his stint in relief hasn’t gone much better during his time with the struggling Chicago White Sox. The former top Atlanta Braves prospect was designated for assignment by Chicago on Tuesday. After making 19 appearances this season—14 of them out of the bullpen—Wilson may now be searching for a new team. Could a reunion with Atlanta be in the cards?

This season, Wilson has struggled significantly, posting a rough 6.95 ERA over 45.1 innings. His rates of hits and walks per nine innings are both well above his career norms, which has also thrown off his strikeout-to-walk ratio. Since being dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates midway through the 2021 season, Wilson has bounced around. He did, however, seem to regain some form over the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers.

For a team like the Braves, currently dealing with injuries and inconsistencies on the mound, giving a former prospect a second look might not be a bad idea. Wilson offers flexibility—he can eat innings out of the bullpen and make spot starts when needed. While he may no longer be seen as a top-tier asset, he’s shown the ability to be effective, including during his first stint with Atlanta.

Wilson still has one more year of arbitration eligibility before becoming a free agent after the 2026 season.

Ahead of their series opener in Houston, the White Sox promoted right-hander Grant Taylor from Double-A Birmingham and designated Wilson for assignment. At just 26, Wilson is still on the younger side and might be a worthwhile reclamation project for the Braves.

Even though this is expected to be Brian Snitker’s final year managing the team, it’s worth noting that Wilson developed under his watch in the Braves’ system. That familiarity, while not a decisive factor, could influence Wilson’s interest in returning. After all, Atlanta is the team that drafted him out of high school nearly a decade ago, which could still carry some weight.
