Over the offseason, there were rumors that the Chicago Cubs might trade Seiya Suzuki. While nothing materialized during the winter months, there is still a potential scenario where the Cubs could move him if they decide to part ways, especially given his relatively expensive contract that runs through 2026.

With the challenges the Atlanta Braves are facing, Suzuki could be a top target if Chicago is open to trading him. So far in the 2025 season, Suzuki has been impressive, hitting .256/.327/.581 over 10 games. While he leads the league in strikeouts, his 146 OPS+ highlights his solid offensive production.

MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reported that the Braves expect Ronald Acuña Jr. to return in May, but with Jurickson Profar suspended, the team could use some immediate help. “The Braves added Fairchild because they knew Profar would be out through June. For now, Fairchild, Kelenic, De La Cruz, and Harris will be Atlanta’s outfielders,” Bowman explained. “Verdugo could soon become an option, and Acuña should be back in May.”

The Cubs don’t have a pressing reason to trade Suzuki in the coming weeks, and a deal closer to the trade deadline would make more sense for both parties. However, if the Cubs continue their strong performance (currently 7-4 and first in the NL Central), it might be tough to justify moving their cleanup hitter. Still, given the Cubs’ history of cost-cutting, anything is possible, and the Braves would be the most logical fit for Suzuki right now.
