Kanye West is known for blowing up the internet with his occasional social media posts. His recent rant was no different as he went on to list the obstacles that made it impossible for him to take the big stage at the Super Bowl. Much to the audience’s surprise, fellow rap artist Taylor Swift, his longtime nemesis, was also one of the reasons.
Kanye West made it clear with his now-deleted tweet that he has no intentions of burying the hatchet anytime soon. In the aforementioned post on X, the 47-year-old rapper claimed that his longstanding feud with Taylor Swift made him a straight no for the Super Bowl halftime show.
He went on to call it a “movement” that surfaced back in 2009 after his stint at the MTV Video Music Awards. Kanye West crashed Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech and quipped that Beyonce was more deserving of the recognition.
As for his other two reasons, he remarked that George Bush was ignorant of his race and that his support for the ruling president, Donald Trump, was another concern. He further added that he was “ahead of his time” and all reasons stood as impediments to the Super Bowl stage.
Notably, Kanye West’s beef with Taylor Swift did not end at that, he proceeded to name-drop her in one of his songs in 2016. The situation worsened when the Eras tour headliner’s reps denied his claims for permission to call her an expletive.
The two engaged in an extremely public and chaotic online battle, which resulted in Swift getting cancelled by the public. Ultimately, the ‘Midnight Rain’ singer managed to get the audience’s trust and became the last one standing.
However, Taylor Swift was not the only artist Kanye West had a public dispute with. He also made crude remarks about Jay-Z, a key artist involved in the decision-making process of the Super Bowl. Starting in 2016, the two engaged in multiple beefs, with Ye’s comments from last month being the most damaging.
He has only had a shot at performing at one of the most sought-after stages in the world when he briefly joined with Rihanna for pre-Super Bowl festivities. Other artists who left a mark on the stage were Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, The Weeknd, and Michael Jackson.
While Taylor Swift has never performed at the Super Bowl, she has close connections to the NFL. The singer has frequently attended matches to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Another person she is affiliated with is Jay-Z, with whom she cheers for his wife, Beyonce’s victories. Close friends, Swift was reportedly welcome to perform for the NFL audience at their biggest event. However, there were multiple reasons why she might not fulfill the fans’ wishes anytime soon.
According to sources close to DailyMail, Taylor Swift wanted to wait until Travis Kelce was no longer active. Speaking of which, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, despite loving the sport, considered the damage on his body. There have been slight chances he could take retirement at 35.
More importantly, the singer wanted her loved ones to be able to see her, which was not possible if Kelce played. Another major reason was Pepsi being a close sponsor of the event. Swift’s established partnership with Coke primarily held her back.
