The Philadelphia Phillies made a difficult decision to designate Kody Clemens for assignment to activate Weston Wilson. Before Clemens could hit the open market, the Minnesota Twins swooped in and traded cash considerations for the versatile infielder.
Following the news of the trade, Clemens took to Twitter/X to share a heartfelt message to the Phillies fans he played for over the past three seasons. Clemens led off his reaction to his trade by thanking the Phillies fans and organization.
“Thank you Philly! It was an amazing chapter in my book! Thankful for all the memories and relationships I’ve created over the past 3 seasons!”
Now, as a member of the Twins, Clemens is expected to get significantly more at-bats compared to what he was getting on the Phillies roster. In the same post, Clemens also shared his excitement about joining the Twins.
“Extremely excited for this new opportunity in Minnesota! Let’s go Twins!”

Clemens leaves the Phillies after a little over two years in Philadelphia. He was traded to the Phillies as part of the Matt Vierling and Nick Maton for Gregory Soto swap the Phillies and Detroit Tigers pulled off after the 2022 season.
Since joining the Phillies, Clemens had 259 at-bats over 97 games. He had 57 hits, 32 runs scored, 16 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, and 31 RBI. Clemens hit for a .220 batting average with a .265 on-base percentage, and a .394 slugging percentage for a .659 OPS.
In 2025, Clemens got off to a poor start. In six at-bats and seven plate appearances, Clemens didn’t get a hit and had just one walk. Although the sample size was very small, the numbers were insufficient to keep him on the roster.
Clemens now heads to Minnesota after an underwhelming two-plus years in Philadelphia. With more opportunities with the Twins on the horizon, Clemens will have a chance to find his footing with a new team.
