On Monday, the 49ers cut ties with nine-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024 after earning first-team honors in 2023. A versatile performer who is proficient as a runner, blocker and pass catcher, Juszczyk, 33, made the Pro Bowl in all of his eight years with San Francisco, but the team is looking to go in a different direction.

So far, the beloved fullback has not commented on his release, but his wife seemingly did so in a cryptic post on her Instagram story.

After the news broke, Kristin Juszczyk posted a photo on her story of the couple’s dog looking sad, along with a one-word message: “Mood.”

It’s definitely a tough day for the Juszczyk’s and San Francisco fans.

According to the New York Post, Kristin later shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call with her husband, 49ers tight end George Kittle and his wife Claire, with all four of them looking upset. She eventually deleted the post.

The Juszcyzks and Kittles have been close friends, with Kristin and Claire often being spotted together at games and away from the field.

Known for his durability, Juszczyk appeared in all 17 games for San Francisco in 2024 and was a valued contributor.

The former fourth-round pick obliged, but admitted he was “hurt” by the situation.

“At the end of the day, I feel like I have the best opportunity in the world to play here for the Niners,” Juszczyk said. “I do think that I’m being taken care of in a good way as a fullback on this team. I am happy with my role. My ego took some shots, but at the end of the day, I want to be on a team that all these superstars are getting paid more money because that means they did something great the year before. I feel a part of that.”

Still, the writing seemed to be on the wall for a while, at least dating back to last offseason, when the 49ers asked Juszczyk to take a pay cut to remain with the team.
